This will destroy a fence much faster than if the fence post and boards were not in contact with soil!
The best material and practice for fence posts is to use metal posts and cover the metal with wood for aesthetics, or in the case of a wood post install rocks to hide the footing instead of soil.

Wood fences with metal posts are our most popular fence based from cost and longevity. Another common fence we build is horizontal redwood or cedar. This option is more costly, yet provides outstanding visual results.
We have also built a lot of fencing with wire as the infill. This style can be economical and may increase vision through the fence.

Vinyl and iron fencing can last a long time with minimal maintenance.
